Pat PopolizioVESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling (11-2), No. 20 in the country, has six wrestlers among the top-33 at their weight class, according to the first of three NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings, released by the NCAA on Friday. Earning slots in the first of three rankings are junior 149-pound Donnie Vinson (No. 5), senior 157-pound Justin Lister (No. 5), freshman heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski No. 17), junior 184-pound Nate Schiedel (No. 20), seniot 165-pound Matt Kaylor (No. 25) and sophomore 197-pound Cody Reed (No. 32).
The rankings are the first of three that will ultimately account for one-third the criteria to determine the number of NCAA Championship qualifiers by conference/region. Each wrestler who occupies a spot inside the final top 33 will earn a qualifying spot for his conference/region when the bids are allocated in early March.
Vinson, ranked No 4, went 3-0 at the CAA Duals on Saturday, accumulating two technical falls and a pin. He is 25-3 overall, 13-0 in duals. Vinson broke his own record for most tech falls in a season (6) and also holds the career mark (16).
Lister, ranked No. 7, went 2-0 at the Duals and along the way, notched his team-high 12th pin of the season. He has 35 career pins, which ranks second all-time during BU's Division I era (Josh Patterson had 47 between 2006-10). Lister lifted his overall record to 20-2, 12-0 in duals.
The Bearcats have sent six individuals to the NCAA Championship in each of the last two seasons.The CAA has 26 wrestlers in the first NCAA Coaches' Panel
